After more than two years of development, the Maxxis ASSEGAI is finally here! Greg Minnaar's signature tyre is the essence of his 30 years of racing experience and Maxxis' expertise from over 50 years of tyre production.
“My idea was to design a tire using the best Maxxis treads. I started in the middle with a combination of the Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. This was because the DHF's surface rolls well and holds great on hardpack, in greasy turns and on wet roots and rocks. The DHR II rolls much better and can brake more aggressively.
Then I set about making an 'extra' lug that gives you more support and a consistent feel when you put the bike on the outside lugs into the corner. That brings us to my favorite tire – the HighRoller. Maxxis engineers and I redesigned the HighRoller side lug to have pretty much the same characteristics as the original. But with the support of that extra stud, you've got the ultimate wingman when you're rushing hard into flat turns.
In the end I took over the lug height from the Shorty. The lugs are well supported, so the raised profile bites well into forest soil and dry, dusty soil.”
