ZIPP 404 Firecrest™ tubular with Hope RS4 hubs

The 404 rim with its 58mm rim profile is a classic in ZIPP's range, whose origins date back to the early 1990s. To this day, racers win with the 404 rims, from flat races like the Queen K to mountain stages on L'Alpe d'Huez. Because with the Firecrest™ rim shape, the rim has the right properties to win any race on any terrain. Whether it's a racing bike, triathlon or track bike, the 404 feels at home everywhere, from fast criteriums to steep mountain stages.

Thanks to the revolutionary Firecrest™ profile rims, time and watt gains of up to 71 seconds / 23 watts over 40km are possible.

The Hope hubs, CNC-milled from 2014 T6 aluminum, impress with their light weight paired with reliable bearings, developed and tested in Barnoldswick, England. Free choice of all available Hope hub colors.

Laced with Sapim CX Ray or DT Swiss Aerolite in black, depending on availability.

Cassette Compatibility
Shimano Road (HG) Freehub Standard

The Shimano Hyperglide (HG) Road Standard is a proven solution for the use of eight, nine, ten, eleven and twelve-speed road bike cassettes. It offers high compatibility and is supported by Shimano and numerous other manufacturers (including SRAM, but not SRAM XD or XDR).

Spacer required:
For eight-, nine- and ten-speed cassettes, a spacer is required to ensure correct installation.
The eleven-speed cassettes CS-HG800 and CS-HG700 from Shimano also require a spacer.

Important: Only for tubular tires that are glued to the rim.

Great that you are interested in our carbon wheels for tubular tires! Here's what you need to know about them:

Light and fast: Our carbon wheels are made for tubular tires, which means they are lighter than traditional clincher tires. This makes your bike more agile and accelerates faster.
Professional performance: Many professionals prefer tubular tires because they offer an impressive combination of performance and reliability. With our carbon wheels, you get the most out of your bike.
Smooth ride: The seamless construction of the tubular tires ensures a smooth ride and offers better grip when cornering. This means more control and fun while riding.

But how do tubular tires differ from the other versions, such as tubeless, clincher and tubular?

Tubular: This version uses a seamless rubber tire that is glued directly to the rim. They offer the best performance, but are a little more difficult to install and require special rims.
Tubeless: Unlike tubular tires, tubeless tires do not use tubes. Instead, sealant is poured into the tire to seal smaller holes. Tubeless tires offer similar benefits to tubular tires, but are a little easier to install and maintain.
Clincher: Clincher tires are the most common type of tire. They have a separate tube and tire construction that is clamped onto the rim. Clincher tires are easy to install and offer good all-round performance, but are usually heavier than tubular and tubeless tires.

So if you are looking for the highest performance and a premium riding experience, our carbon tubular wheels are just the thingtige for you!

Weight recommendation:

The weight of the entire system rider+equipment (=clothing+bike+bottles+tools+div.) must not exceed 102kg. The wheels are generally not approved for tandem bikes. No guarantee if the permissible total system weight is exceeded.

Indianapolis 1988< /span>

Motorsport engineer Leigh Sargent was actually specialized in perfecting the aerodynamics of Indy 500 vehicles. As the passionate cyclist became more and more involved with carbon wheels and disc wheels, he recognized the potential and founded the Zipp company in Indianapolis, the cradle of American motorsports. Two years after its foundation, the first Ironman in Hawaii was won with Zipp wheels. Already an insider tip in triathlon, it took until 2000 for the US brand to make the leap into professional cycling to the Belgian Lotto team. Ever since the company equipped the CSC team in 2003, it has been a major player in cycling.

Lead through technology

Zipp's sole mission is to help you get faster. For years, Zipp has used a combination of testing methods such as wind tunnels, CFD computer simulations, professional athlete evaluations and On-road testing to take aero performance to new levels. Our goal is to reduce drag while minimizing the impact of crosswinds on handling. This optimization of aero efficiency and crosswind stability was developed internally at Zipp known as AeroBalance ™. The approach began with Firecrest technology and was further developed with the introduction of the NSW range, particularly with Sawtooth ™ technology. Sawtooth ™ achieves this with a series of patented, fin-shaped Hyperfoil ™ nodes along the inner diameter of the rim, which is made with our new HexFin ™ ABLC dimples work together to improve airflow.
