E-bike Battery

Charge:

Two options: directly on the bike or with the battery removed. Thanks to intelligent chargers you can leave the battery recharging overnight without overloading it. You should always do it in dry environments.

Lifespan:

Factors that shorten the lifespan: heavy use, storing in environments >30°C/86F, long periods of time with fully charged or empty battery, exposure to the sun.

Factors, that prolong the lifespan: low demands, storing in environments with temperatures between 0 and 20 °C  (32 and 68 F), storing with battery levels between 30 and 60%, parking the bicycle under a shadow.

Maintenance:

A damp cloth is best. The connector poles should occasionally be cleaned and greased with electrical grease. To protect the electronic components, they should not be cleaned with a direct water jet or even a high-pressure cleaner.

How fast can an E-Bike be?

There are two classification: E-Bikes with a speed range until 25 Km/h (approx. 15,5 mph) and 45 Km/h (approx. 28 mph), for which you need a permit, a driver license, and an insurance.

Use:

The system will be switched on with a button, just like a coffee machine, and off you go. To recharge the battery is not complicated at all, because you get corresponding charger when you purchase the bike.

Service and Weather

Inspection:

Specially when owning an e-bike are inspections enormously important. Beside the mechanical components like brakes or shifters, electrical parts are also to be inspected. A software update may as well be executed during an inspection, so that the performance can be improved. A visit to the workshop per year is recommended, from an annual mileage of 2000 Km (approx. 1,24 miles) you should take a second time during a year to the workshop.

Service:

Every bicycle, no matter if with or without a motor, will be thankful for a regular care. The gears consisting of chain, cassette, and chainring should permanently kept clean. For this purpose, is recommended the corresponding gear cleaner.
For more detailed information, please refer to the operating instructions of the respective manufacturer.

Storage:

The battery should always be stored in a dry place, whereas the charge should be between 60 and 30%. For further information follow the users guide for the respective bike.

Battery removal:

The battery removal differs depending on the battery type. There are luggage rack batteries, siderelease batteries and top release batteries.
